  •  Nuclear War Now Likely (none)

Mr. Bush has capitulated fully to the radical right.

Yes, many on the left felt Meirs was unqualified and too close to the President. But Meirs would not have been withdrawn without an outcry from the radical right.

BECAUSE of the Meirs fiasco, the radical right is more ready then ever for nuclear war and they WILL DEMAND a CLEAR radical right replacement for Meirs. Bush WILL nominate such a person.

Reid will move to filibuster and Frist WILL enact the nuclear option.

The Republicans WILL succeed in getting their radical right justice approved.

That will mean 4 hard right justices on the USSC. We have 85 year old John Paul Stevens as the most liberal justice on the USSC, ie, he is VERY old and COULD die soon.

After the US Senate has fought nuclear war, what will be our response?

Will that put a fire under us and our people to return the Democrats to power in 2006 or will it more likely rally the right to the Republicans and allow them to remain in power in 2006?

    I am concerned.

In any event, the Plame case may throw a monkey wrench into the Republican's prospects next year.

But progressive Democrats are a LONG WAY from taking power from Republicans.

Get to work.  But remember this the Nuclear Option works only if the Republicans hold together.  Right now there are probably a lot of moderate Republicans who are not looking forward to supporting some right wing ideolog anymore than the Democrats.  They will look for a way to torpedo an Owens or Brown.  Not in public, if they can help it, but torpedo they will.

Our best hope is that Bush fully caves to the hard right and appoints a full blown conservative activist judge with a long record of supporting wingnut positions.

My greatest fear is that he finds another Roberts who appears just moderate enough to sway a few Democrats and all the moderate Republicans.
