  •  It was both (none)
Had the wingnuts really believed she was "one of them" they would have fought tooth and nail for her - including blocking all requests for documentation and apologia for all her faults.  Remember Thomas?  Had she been highly respected and qualified Bush would have rammed her past wingnut objections to a peculiar floor vote.  But she has neither the opinions to earn support from the wingers nor the cred to earn respect from everybody else so down she goes.
    •  Nope it wasn't that (none)
I truly believe what did Harriet in is that she didn't make liberals angry enough.  I was struck by how many right wing callers to Washington Journal this morning all called for the nomination of Janice Rodgers Brown.  And rather than her record or philosphy, most of them cited "Sticking it to the Left" as the major reason they want her.

The Wingnut Right don't just want a safe seat on the court, they want to break our will, and demonstrate their power over both the Left and their own party.

They were Mad about Harriet because it meant they couldn't have an angry screaming fight over her, and they live (or at least heavily fundraise) off of that sort of thing.
