  •  Gerrymandering an Equal Opportunity Offense (none)
Our current way of doing redistricting enormously rewards gerrymandering. Since there's little political cost to doing it (though it does cast doubt on a party's selfless concern for democracy), it's unsurprising that both major parties do it.

Ohio and California results tonight suggest that solving this problem will be very difficult.  Partisans of each party are going to vote as a solid block against any attempt to reform redistricting in a state in which they have the upper hand.

The one silver lining, I suppose, is that neither the Ohio nor California proposals was truly nonpartisan.  Perhaps this will embolden reformers to propose schemes that are more clearly selfless and thoroughgoing -- e.g. redistricting by computer algorithm or, better yet, some form of proportional representation.
