  •  Canadian dollar (4.00)
    They may not save the world, but the oil sands will keep Canada doing well. Not a bad time to be holding Canadian dollars or buying into investment vehicles based in Canada focused on the oil sands. If you look at the Canadian economy there has been a big shift to the west (Alberta and BC). These two provices, with oil and Asian trade, are booming.

    I will probably move back to Canada next year and need to pick a place. Despite the politics (conservative) I may end up in the West as the economic prospects going forward look so good.

    Just because you can doesn't mean you should!

    •  True but, (4.00)
      this also threatens Canada with

      • a bit of Dutch disease, as the rest of the economy is made uncompetitive by the rising C$;

      • a crisis of the federal system as Alberta doesn't want to share the bounty with the other provinces (although it would still share the currency).

      It won't be simple to manage...

      ain't that conservative.  It may have a centre-right party in power now, but it is regularly governed by the left-wing NDP and Vancouver and Victoria have left-wing civic governments.
