Concurrent with this realization was my involvement in technology.  First with email lists,  FTP, telnet and IRC, then with creating web sites when the Web became available, I built my technical expertise slowly, but with a clear objective.  And I wrote the prose and the poetry and created the art necessary to acquire common understanding which whomever I was addressing.  As I encountered technical difficulties, I expanded my technical knowledge.  Eventually it dawned on me that what was necessary was a multimedia approach.

This is where my connection with Bloomfield College begins.  You caught me when I needed to learn the multimedia skills.  My programming knowledge prior to coming to work at Bloomfield consisted of being able to write html from scratch, one extra-curricular class in high school, which I can hardly remember, and knowing how to code numerous graphical calculators.  Since I was hired in 2001, I have taught myself Visual Basic 6.0, C++, Java, Lingo, ActionScript, and upgraded to Visual Basic .NET.  I've not just taught these to myself so that I can use them, I've taught them to myself so that I can teach them.  In hindsight, I consider that a formidable task.

Teacher's Lounge opens each Saturday, sometime between 10am and 11am EST
