  •  This Vet's Day was particularly disgraceful (4.00)
Worst abuse since Smirk & Sneer seized power.

It's not just that this admin is shameless or tone deaf, but that they continue to treat Iraq (and any vet-related issue) like their personal bone. They just have no connection or even interest in people outside the little bubble of self-promotion. They've run out of rationales and are back at GO, so of course it's about the flag.

I've joined with the veterans groups to call on Congress to protect the flag of the United States in the Constitution of the United States. (Applause.) In June, the House of Representatives voted for a constitutional amendment to ban flag desecration. I urge the United States Senate to pass this important amendment. At this hour, a new generation of Americans is defending our flag and our freedom in the first war of the 21st century. (Applause.)(GBW 11/11/05)

Here's Public Enemy Number One defacing a flag and showing aspiring traitors how it's done:

...ate a flag at least once.  It was a layer cake, decorated as the flag.  Somebody, maybe 'beautiful mind Barbara', cut it up, and a bunch of Bushes and Shrubs chewed it up and swallowed it.

We're all pretty crazy some way or other; some of us just hide it better.

        •  About burning the flag (none)
I was watching one of the military channels, and they were training soldiers who were about to go into I think Afghanistan. This episode was how to engage armed, hostile crowds, and one of them was carrying a burning flag.

Not a replica or a plain piece of burning cloth but an actual flag.  Why is it only if you are a republican (I mean patriot) that you can burn a flag.

I know they will argue that this was a training exercise designed to simulate the real thing and to stir up the emotions of the soldiers, but gimme a break.

If burning the flag is so despicable I don't see how we would do it even in a real training exercise. That would be like simulating death around you by actually killing civilians. If that is overly simplistic, then so is saying that only the enemy burns the flag. Burning the flag is also one of the most symbolic forms of dissent (imo).
