(clearing throat meekly) the Democratic Party has not yet put forward a clear message or plan on the Iraq War.  Too many prominent leaders who would assume its mantle in '08 can't summon the courage to call it a doomed, corrupt, illegitimate folly deserving of a prompt ending.  Feingold has, Edwards just did (barely), and don't get me started on the Clintons, Schum-ah, Kerry, Di-Fi, D-MBNA, and on and on.

It's a party of aspirants waiting for the other to make the mistake of "going too far" with the Fred Hiatts and Punch Sulzbergers of the world, when they should be telling them in unison to go suck a hot rock and publicly blaming them for selling this war as lustily as BushCo itself.  Gore tried to give his old colleagues some cover in his Oct. 5 media critique, but no working Dems seem to want to shoot the messenger --  which is all the more frustrating because the media is slowing learning that by donning a bullseye suit it can actually win back the audience it's been losing for decades.

Hiatt's an idiot, sure... dangerous, in fact.  But I'd love to see one of our elected officials say so publicly.  It'd strenghthen our party.
