  •  Tag Cop. (none)
    Crap.  Nothing like more work.

    My modest proposal-

    • Start with the 1 or 2 diary tags.
    • Consolidate misspellings, capitalization, and first/last name combos (last name only without extenuating circumstances.  folkblum says different and if that is the community standard them I'm happy to be educated.).
    • Leave a comment that says what you did so the diarist can 'fix' it if they strongly disagree.
    Any takers?  Any suggestions?
    •  folkbum. then. (none)
I did spell check.  I did, I did, I did.
    •  Include first names (none)
That's been the standard and it won't hurt anyone, if tweaked along the lines folkbum suggests.  Moreover, including the first name increases the tag's value in a random, non-Kossack Google search.
      •  The standard? (4.00)
Gotta move quick around here. Tags are what, 1-2 months old? And now we're claiming that a 'community standard' is already firmly established?

        •  Yes (4.00)
George W. Bush didn't wind up with over 1600 tags (compared to a current 5 for "Bush") by chance.
        •  Pretty much is a standard (4.00)
          As of right now:

          Bush: 6
          George W. Bush: 1613

          Cheney: 3
          Dick Cheney: 633
          Richard Cheney: 0

          Libby: 0
          Irving Libby: 0
          Scooter Libby: 646

          Kerry: 1
          John Kerry: 95
          John F Kerry: 0

          Dean: 6
          Howard Dean: 93

First-last, using the most common form of the first name, is fairly thoroughly the community norm.

          •  Uncle ! (none)
Heh. The Dean example hit home.

I asked a diarist to addd 'John ' to his title because I expected the topic to be Howard Dean.

When I look at all the tags, there is less confusion than I would have expected. That may be the result of some dedicated souls cleaning up tags, but it seems to be working.

            •  the way to build on this work (4.00)
is to give diarists numerical insight into their choices and the likely alternatives during preview.

Anyone who has tagged something "GW Bush" and is given the alternative of "George W Bush - 2 gaziliion; GW Bush - 0" will much more likely go with the established choice.
