  •  who are the 4 others? (none)
    Just out of curiosity.  Independents usually don't do well in Canadian elections.

    •  The Four "Others" (none)
      Desjarlais, Bev
      Churchill, Manitoba
      Independent (Formerly NDP)

      Hon. Kilgour, David
      Edmonton--Mill Woods--Beaumont, Alberta
      Independent (Formerly PC, then Independent, then Liberal, then Independent again)

      O'Brien, Pat
      London--Fanshawe, Ontario
      Independent (Formerly Liberal)

      Parrish, Carolyn
      Mississauga--Erindale, Ontario
      Independent (Formerly Liberal)

      (Info from the Parliament of Canada website.)

      •  Open seats (none)
        Mississauga and Churchill will go to the Liberals (Desjarlais will run again, but as an independent, IIRC), the Edmonton seat is likely to switch to the Cons and O'Brien's seat might go either way: O'Brien is from a rural riding and resigned from the Liberal caucus because of the gay marriage legislation.

        Plausible outcome:

        • Cons: +1 or 2;
        • NDP: -1;
        • Libs: 0 or -1.
      •  Carolyn Parrish (none)
        I wonder if the Liberals will welcome her back?

        Here she is stomping a George Bush doll as part of a comedy skit on national tv.

        And Paul and Carolyn in happier times.

        •  Stepping down (none)
          Carolyn Parrish announced earlier that she is stepping down. As I recall, she was worried that a Conservative might be elected if she, running as an independent, split the vote with a Liberal candidate.
