  •  it is a point of pride of mine (4.00)
that I wrote one of the first "I love Russ" diaries. It seems that all the Feingold fans on this site all have a similar story of "discovering" Russell Feingold; and being amazed at how little there is to say against the man. I discovered Feingold while I was researching the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (which was like Patriot Act-lite) for an American politics class my freshmen year in college. I kept finding that on amendment after amendment to bill, roll call after roll call, there was only one Senator that consistently stood where I stood: firmly protective of civil liberties. Can you guess who that was?

Since then, I've been watching Feingold closely, and  the more I learn, the more I get excited about the prospects of him emerging as major leader for the Democrats. He's staunchly anti-war, pro-civil liberty, suspicious of money and power in politics, populist on trade issues, a hawk on deficits, and on a personal pet issue of mine--standardized testing--Feingold stands among the few Democrats to oppose them, at least on national level. I would be proud to actively support and work for Feingold in 2008.
