I have a son in his 20s who quotes from Hendrix, Dylan and tries to sing love songs by Smokey Robinson. Nothing wrong with young people quoting from the past. I just hope they don't make the same mistakes we made.

paying money for Journey--on cassette tape.  Mistake...
    •  Kids quoting Smokey (none)
I sneaked a listen to my 8 year old daughter doing her Motown Thang -- wailing away while holding a big soup spoon as a pretend microphone, only to hear..

"... a green eraser where there's only sand..."

"...the love I saw in you was just a garage."

It all I could do to keep from busting a gut and giving away my clandestine vantage point from behind the door in the other room.  If she ever found out I heard that she'd never forgive me or, worse, stop singing.

She cracks me up every day.

she sounded better than most singers who re-sang his songs. I once heard a rendition of My Guy from a torch singer at a casino in Atlantic City and my friend and I offered to pay her to stop.
