I think that the particular set of Christians that would not vote for a candidate because he/she is Jewish are already unreachable for us. That's mostly the basest-most-base of the other side. Maybe we'd lose a few Black hardcore evangelicals. Even that is pretty doubtful, IMO.

I actually think that there would be potential here that the right would overplay its hand, and step into undeniably anti-semitic territory. Should that happen, and should it get publicity, they absolutely lose. Even the subtly-bigotted majority of Americans don't want to think of themselves that way, and nobody likes somebody who pushes the same stereotypes as Hitler. Which is exactly how it would be read by your average guy-who-barely-remembers-highschool-history.

And we could potentially gain from the excitement, actually, that would surround the FIRSTEVER! Jew running for President. Free airtime. What have you.

I tend to think that in the end, being Jewish would probably have very little net effect. Being single, eh, we could debate that, though I still don't think it's unhandleable.

BUT, Democrats are horrible at campaigning, The repukes will LIE, Cheat steal, Lie some more, and keep telling the same lie over & over adnauseam until it is believed.
We could hope that repukes hang themselves yes, but unless the MSM is on your side then basically in today's political climate you lose.

Look what the MSM did for Dubya, clearly 2 stolen elections without any question, this should be the biggest news story in American history as the day Democracy died, yet only a whimper.

Some of that was the fact that Democrats are spineless, except for a few such as Conyers and the Black caucus, but still.

Sure, I agree. But if they try to center that around the fact that he's a Jew, they'll pay dearly for it, IMO. I don't mean to step into tokenizing territory, but one of the lessons that the GOP has learned is that minority candidates/officeholders do tend to require much more careful criticism by the press, as nobody wants to be labelled a bigot. The fact that people often are bigots, deep down, only IMO works to accent their need to deny their bigotry, particularly where race and religion are concerned.

The bigots who like being called bigots are already on the other side. Everybody else would probably just avoid the issue.

"unless the MSM is on your side then basically in today's political climate you lose."

Again, I utterly agree. But I just can't see the MSM making a big issue of a candidate being a Jew, except that they'd probably have a field day with the "first Jew! OMIGOD LOOK Jew running for president! Groundbreaking!" stuff. Which just counts as free airtime, really.

is Jewish and he lost because Blair is a better campaigner and because the Tories suck, not because he was Jewish.  I think Russ' religion is not a barrier to being elected here. Sadly, he will not be able to build trust in the Arab world - his religion is a big barrier there.
