    That's one fine analogy, mmacdDE ...

    Only one problem: We can't get rid of the contractor soon enough. Either the contract runs to term (Jan 2009), or we take a radical, expensive and risky step of trying to break the contract, which requires a level of support on the Hill that doesn't exist now, and in real probability, won't exist even after the mid-terms (though it's an interesting fantasy for daydreaming).

    For now, though, it seems we're stuck with a foreman who doesn't know a ripsaw from a crosscut, or a ball-peen from a claw.

      All we can do is fine them for missing deadlines.
      •  That Can't Be Entirely True (none)
        There must be some way that a default by the contractor would invalidate the agreement. Trouble is that you've got to catch the default ...
