    I actually lived on Guam during this debacle and know some of the players mentioned above. In fact, I was the speechwriter for the Governor during the 2002 election and I distinctly recall Abramoff being on the phone to one of the parties mentioned above. That's Abramoff's obvious MO: Take advantage of minority American voices, milk them like hell, and call them morons behind closed doors. For many, many years, 'white America' has done this to Native Americans, Chamorros on Guam, Palauans, Micronesians and more. By the way, the LA story is wrong on one point: There is not a textile industry on the island; that is Saipan, Guam's neighbor to the north, another location where Abramoff has schemed and pillaged. Perhaps they meant Guam's construction industry, which hires workers from China, the Philippines and beyond and which has been fueled of late by the military's renewed interest in the island as their strategic base of operations in the western Pacific.
