    So if the conspiracy charge is nixed because the law didn't exist yet, why isn't the act of the laundering itself nixed also?  Did the new law pertain only to conspiracy of corporate money laundering?

      no, the money laundering charges stuck.  The case for conspiracy to violate Texas' ban against using corporate donations for campaigns was dismissed because the conspiracy aspect of that law was newer than the alleged crimes (this is my unperfect understanding).  But he could still be recharged, methinks.  Especially if his other trial for brings out more dirty laundry.

      Not the money laundering per se.

      This shows the ruling is bogus. In effect it says corporate contributions were legal but hiding them was not.
