  •  politics isn't slogans (none)
and i don't think technocrats have served us all that well politically. you can try to latch onto the label "progressive" if you think it's rising in stock, but if you cannot come up with a clear ideological vision of what your progressive america is, it's just lame advertising, and people will tune you out.

what does your progressive america look like? if your answer looks conservative, you're a conservative, not a progressive. change in itself is not enough, especially if it's limited to a change of partisan control. labels are meaningless without substance. in reality, every aspect of your life is liberal, because all things are connected. mixing and matching doesn't work, and neither does splitting the distance, in the long run.

i will not support a "pragmatic" candidate until i know where they actually stand on both their diagnosis of problems, their solutions, and their intended vision of a reformed future. all the rest of the marketing is useless.

    •  But it makes sense... (none)
Progress makes sense.  Progress works.  Why are we so beholden to political ideology that we can't make discoveries objectively?

      •  the way you are using "progress" here (none)
is as a content free label, much as the republican party coopted perot and clinton's 1992 message of "reform" in 94, while dedicating it to radically different ends. the idea of change in and of itself is not enough, we need to actually know where it is we're heading. "progress," "ideology," "pragmatism" without context and clearly stated vision of the final destination are hollow marketing terms, and will not inspire people or have much of an effect on the political mainstream, which is the ultimate goal of politics.

the democratic party is not coca-cola or a new brand of detergent.
