  •  Here's what I tell people (4.00)
    I don't know for sure whether the 2000 election was stolen.

    I don't know for sure whether several of the Senate races in the 2002 election were stolen.

    I don't know for sure whether the 2004 election was stolen.

    But they sure do smell funny...

    Also, think of the kinds of protection you have to put on your own computer to avoid viruses, identity theft, etc. Any PC that's connected to the internet and isn't protected by anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software is just asking to be hacked or otherwise compromised.

    Yet we put almost completely unprotected voting machines on insecure computer networks and pretend that everything is A-OK. It just doesn't make sense.

    In order to use electronic voting, three protections are needed as a minimum:

    1. A voter-verified paper trail that remains inside the machine;

    2. Random audits of precincts chosen by non-electronic means -- the floating balls used in state lotteries would be a good choice -- and if there is a major discrepancy between the electronic total and paper trail total, then a full recount must be done using the paper trail as the official ballot;

    3. Copies of all voting machine software, including updates, must be on file in the state capital and be open for inspection by representatives of all political parties.

    We have similar kinds of protections in place for things like the video slot machines in Atlantic City and state lotteries. So, why isn't the integrity of our electoral system at least as important as the integrity of legal gambling?
    •  What I do know for sure (none)
      is that we can't prove that the election was valid.

      But that's unimportant. Since, it can't be shown that there is or isn't FRAUD, we must not speak of FRAUD until there is proof of FRAUD . Keep in mind, fellow reality based community members, this article does not prove that FRAUD actually took place.

      Resistance is futile.

      •  How about this bank account in Nigeria? (4.00)
        Hey, I got this email today:

        "My husband died and left a large estate of $20 million dollars.  Now I need your help to move it to the USA. You will get 20% for your assistance, just send me your bank account number."

        Now, neither you or I "know" that this is a fraudulent offer, but how much are you willing to bet that it is not a fraud?

        That's the same odds that Bush didn't steal the 2000 election, and if you believe otherwise, you are truly disconnected from reality.

        Bush is a liar.
        Rove is a liar.
        Cheney is a liar.
        Bush, Cheney and Rove always cheat and lie, and they'll throw in a little torture also.

      •  That's the problem with fraud (none)
        If it is really good fraud, it is not causgt or proven.  So while you wait for proof, the fraud goes on right in front of your face.

        Thirty years ago I learned a game called NIM.  It is a game of fraud.  No one has ever beat me at this game until I told them how to "play" it.

        So just because I can't see proof of fraud, doesn't mean I shouldn't damn well think it's happening and do everything i can to prevent it.
