  •  Let's get who's attacking who (4.00)
Neither Cegelis or Duckworth is attacking each other. Although there is a lot of frustration being vented by Cegelis supporters, the attacks are (or should be) directed towards Emanuel and his undermining of Cegelis.

Emanuel is the one who shouted "fire!" to the firing squad here. He's the one undermining a district supported candidate. He's the one wasting probably more than $1M on a primary to undercut a progressive Blogosphere friendly Democrat that Cegelis is.

We're pissed locally. And we have a right to be. We are not going to roll over and accept Rahm's annointed candidate. Would you abandon a candidate you believe in, have supported for two years, and has served as a rallying point for a rebirth of your local party organization?

I sure as hell am not.

This race is a struggle for the soul of the Democratic party. Do we want electabiliy, the old Democratic political party bosses, and only the rich picking the candidates who will represent us in Congress?

Or do we want hard working progressive Democrats who support Democratic core values like support for organized labor, a woman's right to choose, support for small business, and the spine to stand up and say Bush's war was wrong - when it wasn't popular to do so.

I want the latter candidate. And in IL-06, that candidate is Cegelis.

    •  err... (none)
... given that Duckworth was enlisted until recently, how do you know that she too is not a "hard working progressive Democrats who support Democratic core values like support for organized labor, a woman's right to choose, support for small business, and the spine to stand up and say Bush's war was wrong"?
      •  We'll find out Sunday (none)
Let' see what she's got to say, then let's look at her history of involvement in politics in the district.
        •  I'd settle ... (none)
... since she lives in IL-8 (Melissa Bean's district), for seeing any connection at all between herself an progressive politics ...

... somebody really ought to register this domain name ...

He & Emanuel have been working on Duckworth all year long.  She's a Black Hawk pilot.  That's all she wants to do.  Let her run in another CD.  Why IL-06?  Emanuel doesn't want Cegelis to win.  He doesn't like her.  She's better than him on all levels.

As for Duckworth, she's been transient all her adult life.  I'd be surprised if she's been registered to vote in Dupage Co. or anywhere else.  I'm certain she's a registered voter now.

To support her in IL-06 means that a person hasn't done their homework.  The smart money's on Cegelis.  Donate generously!!!  We need her on The Hill.

    •  Presumptuous (none)
Since when was it clear who was a "district-supported candidate" and who wasn't?  Seems to me that both candidates have support in the district, and until the primary it's presumptuous to claim exclusive district support for one candidate at the expense of the other.

The revolution will not be televised, but we'll analyze it to death at The Next Hurrah.

      •  Seems pretty clear to me when (none)
one candidate ran last go-round with quite admirable results and zero DCCC support while the other was recruited from outside the district by Emanuel - not to mention the initial diary's info on local party efforts to keep Duckworth on the sideline of official events.

That doesn't mean Duckworth isn't a potentially great candidate, I've not had a chance to do any research, but I'll tell you what, after having Casey rammed down our throats here in PA, I sure can feel for the locals in IL.

        Democracy is a contact sport...

    •  Was at a West Suburban Democratic Club meeting (none)
a week or so ago, and Cegelis was there.  I'm not in her district so I won't be voting for her,  but I was impressed with her understanding of Democratic issues.  She seemed to address everything important to us as left of center Democrats (pushed further left by Bushco and wingnuttery).

However, the bottom line is winning this seat.  So if that takes a hot primary to elevate the person who will be best for this purpose, I'm looking forward to it. We need this seat to impeach.
