If this was done by Ashcroft, the guy who thinks that to dance is a sin, it was under "Higher authority". Bush knew he was on a mission from God, and Ashcroft found him verse and chapter. That all the justification Bush needed. That and the burka over the Boobs of Justice (that apparently covered her eyes as well).

whether he thinks dancing (or anything else) is a sin.  That's his problem.  But his attitude towards the law was (and still is!) our problem.  The mindset that the prez has the power to ignore such legislation is classic Ashcroft, and the reason we voted for the dead guy instead of him in 2000.  (But I'm sure the good progressives of Missouri would join me in saying that if we'd known what mischief he'd be in the Bush administration, we would've taken the bullet for the country and put up with him in the governor's office...)

but always thought that vote was more than just a sympathy vote.  And while I for one appreciate your post-facto offer to "take a bullet for us", the problem is not confined to him, he simply held the office that was most vocal in rationalizeing thier actions. No, this mindset permeates the bush administration and as someone on Dkos recently pointed out, these clowns (the worst of them) all go back to Nixon and Reagan.  As the punchline to an old joke goes "I think I see the problem".
