You have taken it upon yourself to become informed, optimusprime, and to not believe something just because a talking head says it on cable news.  Other people in this country aren't as dutiful as you, and think they're informed if they watch Fox News, when in fact they are becoming disinformed.  Now we find that the "liberal media" was not much better, and what you have is an electorate going to the polls completely ignorant.  I mean, even us Kerry voters were ignorant of this wiretapping thing.  If this story had come out before the election, it is possible some of the Libertarians, who usually vote Republican, would have either voted for Kerry, voted Libertarian, or, most likely, stayed home.

Also, don't forget that something like 70 - 80% of Bush voters thought Saddam Hussein was involved with 9/11, a lie that both George Bush and Dick Cheney tried to plant into the American consciousness.  Kerry was excellent in the debate, pointing out how false this was, but these voters chose to believe the propaganda from right wing media and trumpeted by the Bush administration than find out the truth.  I just don't think you can blame Kerry for what has become a major media problem that is threatening our democracy.
