On this issue, is there any way for her opponent to have a worse position?  The Musgrave Amendment outlaws gay marriage and, contrary to the double-talk coming from the right, precludes states from adopting enforceable civil unions laws.  So, it basically forever relegates gays/lesbians to second class citizens who will never be able to marry and who will never even have the rights of marriage.

Of course, that could change if someday, we were to adopt another Constitutional Amendment to repeal the Musgrave Amendment.  What are the chances of that happening?

Maybe her position on this issue is no better than her opponent's. I'm not convinced of that, but I'll assume it for the sake of argument.

The FMA is hardly the only issue I'm concerned about, especially since it's not going to pass. If she's no worse than her opponent on the FMA and far better than her opponent on other issues, then she's preferable.

Having someone who opposed the FMA would be great, but if that person can't be elected in SD, they won't do us any good.
