I'm sorry, but I'm not settling for ersatz anymore. Any candidate who wants my support had better be from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, and they'll lose that support in a microsecond if it turns out they were just sucking up for votes and go back to being Republican-light once in office.

This is an issue where the wingnuts are going to attack Democrats, period. It won't make a bit of difference whether they just personally married 200 leather lesbians or whether, like Scalia, they'd rather burn at the stake every last queer they could get their hands on. So, since the Ds are going to get kicked in the 'nads on this issue, wouldn't it be nice if, you know, they actually proved they had the 'nads to stand up for what's right?

Sure, we want the Rethugs out of power. I'm beginning to think that result's almost inevitable at this point. But even if it weren't, why should I have to settle for second-best to achieve that admittedly worthwhile end? 'Cuz here's the thing. There's always going to be some crucial race we've just got to win, or some hideous wingnut agenda we've just got to defeat. And each and every time, someone's going to come around and tell me and my brothers and sisters that we're just going to have to wait a little longer before we're magnanimously allowed to enjoy the civil rights that are ours simply by right of being a citizen of this formerly great nation.

Nope. Not gonna do it. This issue is here, it's not going away, and there's definitely a line in the sand on it for me. Stephanie Herseth has just put herself on the wrong side of that line. She can come back to the light, or she can forget about getting support from me.
