    Americans are NOT "slow to accept change", change is a process that has to be produced, over time, but over that period of time you don't just sit and wait, you work to build the proper climate (which is what "accepting change" actually is).
    Saying "its not time" grossly mischaracterizes how social change takes place.

    There is a difference between not supporting the opposite of this amendment and supporting the amendment.  The situations are never black and white, and in this instance Herseth is the one acting as if they are.  Doesn't display a very politically oriented mind, for all those on the list who are urging support for her because "politics" isn't about purity but about understanding realities.  She doesn't appear to, and is simply accepting the most black and white of interpretations of this issue.
