I am truly happy that so many Fighting Dems are stepping up to continue giving their all for their country. Unfortunately, the pesimist in me can just see how this will be treated by the media.

Imagine this: one or more of the Fighting Dems appears on a cable chat show. The host introduces the guest with the comment, "Contrary to the image of Democrats as weak on defense, meet Sgt. Rock, candidate for the U.S. House".

What is wrong with this introduction? It frames the Fighting Dem as the exception not the rule. The media will present the Fighting Dems not as a refutation of the "Dems are weak-kneed pussies" meme but instead as the "exception that proves the rule".

How do we correct this? Each and every one of the Fighting Dems has to make it clear that they are fighters because they are Dems, not in spite of it. They need to make it clear that being a Democrat is part and parcel of what makes them want to fight for their country. Higlight examples of other Fighting Dems in the past who inspired them. Make it clear that their candidacy only proves that Democrats are fighters.

    Huwah!

This is a very good point, and one considering carefully. I like your proposed response.
