  •  And for what? (4.00)
In one respect, we have tested the mettle of a generation and it is strong steel, indeed.

It's just a question of whether this was the right war...and most Americans of late say: ""

    •  not even remotely the right war (4.00)
This man should be allowed to testify at Bush's trial in the Hague.

There's a cancer growing on the presidency.

    •  I think it's a great diary but ... (none)
I cannot agree with your statement about "strong steel", unless it's meant with the utmost irony.  My generation gave up friends and family to go to Canada, died in Ohio, marched through Washington, and were sent involuntarily to kill and die in VietNam, as well as challenging just about every repressive social institution that our parents complacently accepted -- and there were many.  I think you address well the criminality of putting McCoy into the horrible position he was put in and of the wreckage of his body and soul the deaths of his comrades and of the boy, and I agree that no one who wasn't there can place blame on him for the decision he made, but I do not see that he has anything to be proud of.
      •  Whoa, just so it doesn't get lost... (none)
If I didn't write this in the diary, I did tell him that what he was feeling about the boy was appropriate, and he should never forget it.

        Or something like it.

He wasn't looking for props. He was looking for a priest.

        Instead he got me.

I'm not proud of it, either. You think taking these hits is fun?
