  •  parallels with Hitler (none)
This is an excerpt from The Prophet's Way by Thom Hartmann, where one of his spiritual mentors describes meeting Hitler:

"I met Hitler twice", he said. "Not one-on-one like that, but in two public events where I was part of the line of people who walked by him or shook his hand or saluted him. There was a power and magnetism to that man that is indescribable. Many of us thought that he was the savior of our nation, that he would lead us to a time of prosperity of peace, and it looked, at that time, like this was true."

I expressed some skepticism and he leaned closer to me.  "In seven short years," he said, "one man rose from obscurity and conquered nearly all of Europe.  He altered the course of history.  Look at that power, at that accomplishment, regardless of your opinion of whether it was right or wrong.

I don't think GWB is Hitler, nor do I think America is in the same place psychologically as Germany was during the Depression (at least not yet).  But W does have a personality cult, and legions of blind followers (with huge Father figure issues, I might add).  And W's handlers use the same tricks to create a similar psychological aura or atmosphere around W as existed around Hitler.

I actually deleted a parallel that you made... I'm afraid it will become overused... but it's a good parallel...

I don't like Bizarro World... I want to go home to America.
