about the moral clarity within the three-letter agencies about where are the lines and what does it mean to cross the lines.  What about the 'Patriot Act' type infilitration of Granny peace groups?  What right-minded person really thinks that that type of activity is, if nothing else, the best investment of scarce resources to protect the nation's security?  Yet, at the end of the day, it was those 'career' FBI (or otherwise) who were (and are) up to their necks in this.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for the dedication and capability and professionalism of the vast majority of the three-letter agency careerists.  But, when one is in the system, it can be easy to be caught up in a process that those 'outside' clearly see as crossing appropriate lines and, even if questioning what is going on, it becomes quite difficult to cross from being uncomfortable to open opposition.  (How bad must the reality of what is goin on be that there were a dozen people willing to talk from inside one of the most secretive government agencies to a reporter about one of the most highly classified programs within that agency? If the leakers were from NSA, this alone is a very strong statement about what is going on.)
