when Dean goes on fundraising trips to the states he lets the locals keep the money.

Apparently somebody told Howard that having dehydrated state parties was a bad thing.

    Very radical. Ha.

In 1988, Dukakis came to Alabama during the summer before the election and held a Democratic fundraiser in Birmingham.  It raised over a million dollars - FAR more than any fundraiser ever (at least a Dem one) had before.

The Dukakis people collected the checks and bugged out of town.  We never saw them again during the campaign.

It left SO MUCH bad blood that it took years to clean up.  They left us with nothing to fight with and never even called us after that night.

Dean rocks.  If we're going to swing the red states - and don't forget that in some cases a 5% swing in our direction will do that - you have to build up the locals.

It's the only way to build an organization - and bridges to the national party.
