  •  Replicator first! (none)
Seeing as how they must be essentially the same technology. And replicators would turn ass-over-teakettle every economic system ever known to man, abolish hunger and deprivation of any sort....leading, no doubt, to the complete destruction of the planet by about next Tuesday.

    Never mind.

However I'd like to see what they're doing about shielding technology before getting too worked up about the sorts of speeds being discussed here. Show me that and I'm on the first boat outta here. Third star to the right and straight on till morning....

Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

      ...might be a challenge.

Just for kicks, I once figured out (to my satisfaction, anyway) how many 'Earths' there are out there in the Galaxy -- worlds that we'd like to find and call home, and don't require too much re-engineering.

      I get a number around 64,000.

As for worlds we could visit, so long as we took a few precautions: probably several million.

Neither figure is encouraging that new digs are around the corner...unless we make them from scratch.

We've got a few worlds right here in the Solar System we are likely to have up and running sooner than if we went scouting out for real estate elsewhere.

Still... I hear Eta Cassiopeiae is nice this time of year, and Beta Phoenicis, and if you pack a parka, Omicron Eridani can be nice, as well. :)

Never let being humane get in the way of being human. And vice-versa.
