who are wingnuts aren't all that close to me, I do know that my actions are the loudest arguments I can make, and by actions I mean continuing to be open and active in my political life.  I'm elected to a public office, hold an elected position in my state's Democratic Party, and have historically held jobs that only "bleeding heart liberals" hold.  I know my relatives in the area see this stuff, but I never have to really defend myself because they simply won't take me on when we have family gatherings.  Don't know

Anyway, I guess I'm suggesting that you may be able to establish your strength and flex your muscle with your actions, not more conversation with you dad.  If he complains about what you do, simply tell him your doing your civic duty by participating in your democracy.  End of story.  Perhaps he'll grow to respect that if not your views.
