  •  Oceania 'Tis of Thee (none)
America is gradually and dangerously becoming a society of automatons who are losing their individuality, their critical thinking, unable to discriminate between justice and dishonesty, fairness and bigotry, common sense and foolishness, and reality and folly.

There is a steady stream of Republican doublespeak in which Americans are led to believe that President Bush is working for them when in fact he is escalating, by legal and illegal means, his attempt to make the Republicans a permanent majority.

The Republican propaganda of constant fear and military preparedness for terrorists lurking all over is imbuing in a good part of Americans the sense that "Truth" will soon be what the Republicans hold to be the Truth regardless of what reality is at the time. A society that lives by qualities like "Democratic", "free" or "in the American Tradition" will eventually be destroyed under a one party Republican majority

There may be soon a time in which:

" We hold these truths to be self-evident, thal all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights That among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their power from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of those ends, it is the right of the People to alter or abolish it,..."

may become just a scrap of paper and to utter these words possibly criminal.

It is the responsibility of the Democratic party as the repesentatives of those Americans still based on reality and common sense to vigorously defend our country from what I consider an imminent danger. Except for a few and not persistent voices it is a travesty how the Democratic party has behaved and has not resisted the Republican onslaught. All the so called Democratic 2008 presidential candidates have been AWOL during a time in which Republican sheenanigans have been exposed and are being exposed. Americans have a short attention span, remember Katrina? Republicans do not have new issues, they just keep repeating their frames and spin on and on and regretfully it works.

If Democratic presidential hopefuls care more about covering their asses than about what they were elected to do, which in 2006 is to continously frame and expose the Republican incompetence, corruption, lies and attempts to work above the law, then the whole bunch will remain what they are now. Just Democratic 2008 presidential hopefuls.

I am a dissafected Republican hoping through two elections if the Democrats would be up to the task. Regretfully; so far,  they have not been and still are DOA except for a few like Feingold, Clark, and Warner that show slight, but minimal signs of life.

Democrats continuing the course of the last five years do not show much promise for 2006 or for that matter 2008.

Help is needed in soon to be Oceania.

    •  Where does responsibility lie? (none)
You are hoping Dems would be up to the task?

      You say:

It is the responsibility of the Democratic party as the repesentatives of those Americans still based on reality and common sense to vigorously defend our country from what I consider an imminent danger.

Substitute yourself for the "Democratic party." You and I have the responsibility to "vigorously" act.

Have we done all we can?

I have not. But I am acting to correct my irresponsible lack of action.

Let's do more. We are the party we are blaming.
