    They know instinctively, if not in explicit detail, that the economy and our world are changing radically, and they feel in their gut they're behind the curve.

    And what of us?

    Read through this thread. Most of the comments are timeless, these arguments could have been made in 1800 or 1900. Thing is, the world's hurtling through a portal that won't pass many of the most fundamental premises of our system and our cultures and expectations.

    The helm of the right understands this and has a course plotted. We're still guessing.

    •  What passes through the portal (none)
      is up to us.  We can either make the values that created the US as a beacon of freedom and respect come with us through the "portal", or we can just stop swimming, and let the current take us naked and alone into that brave new world.  While the tools of competence, cooperation and security may change, as they always have, the basic values of freedom, the Enlightenment and the Americas do not change.  It's time to call the legal positivists on their fundamental misanthropy.

      Patriotism may be the last refuge of scoundrels, but religion is assuredly the first.
