  •  Grounds for optimism (none)
It is hard to calalogue the numbers of things going wrong for the Reps just now, from the impending scandals to the missteps on Mars, the Anti-Marriage Amendment, and the 9/11 commission.  And in the background the economy.  As soon as a Dem victory looks plausible, the stock market will start to slide (because these dolts can't figure out that the market does better under Dems).  It really does seem to me like 1973-1974 with Nixon, as he looked more and more desperate and lost more and more of the public's trust.  You just don;t get that back.

Over at CalPundit they are having a lot of fun suggesting things for the Repub convention, riffing off of some suggestions from some Gooper that they would have the Marine Band on an aircraft carrier play the National Anthem on big screen TVs etc.  The one thing we know is that they will overplay and underwhelm.

And then here we are.  I have already given probably 10 times what I gave in Pres and Congressional races in my entire voting life, with plans for much more.  Many people are giving for the first time.  There are good candidates all over.  If we keep together and keep at it, I don't think their tentacles are long enough to stop us everywhere at the same time. Anything can change, but here's my prediction:  We pick up at least 10 House seats, and some are in Texas.  And we take the Senate by 2-3 and the Presidency with at least 5 new states.

    •  Spread the wealth - donate nationally. (none)
I think this might be the first time that local races are national, in that the advent of online fundraising/activism has made it possible for the national progressive community to train their wallets on individual races. "Hey everyone! Send Ben Chandler money!" A couple weeks later: "Stephanie Herseth!" A couple months later: "Color Billy Tauzin's district blue!"

And so on, for the districts that look like swing districts and potential pick-ups. Of course, Republicans could target races the same way, but they don't seem as excited.
