  •  Book prices suck (none)
They really do.  Have you ever considered passing out lists of online retailers with your syllabus?  They can be much cheaper than campus bookstores.
    •  Campus I Dot Com (none)
Is a meta-search engine for books.  You can search by Title, Keyword, Author, or ISBN, and all the major online booksellers come up--and then some.  I never would have been able to find my texts for under $80 each otherwise.

    •  Yes, (none)
I usually give them all of the info they need to order their books wherever they wish.  The campus bookstore is useless at our university.  A list of online retailers is a good idea.
    •  Half and Amazon (none)
It's the only way I'm surviving grad school. Half.com and Amazon often have the best prices and I always sell back things I won't need for licensure exams...

    •  My husband is a HS teacher (none)
He teaches at a fairly wealthy school, but he teaches CS, which changes rather rapidly (certainly moreso than any other subject taught in the math department!), so they don't have the budget to upgrade textbooks as often as he needs them.  He needs to upgrade to a new textbook for next year, and has decided to go w/ a book that has just come out w/ a new edition.  Except that he's planning to use the just-become-obsolete edition (I'm not sure if this is to save money or because he prefers it).  He's been spending the last couple of months looking for the book as copies come up at sites like half.com, and when they're a good price he pounces on them (the school will reimburse him -- at prices like these they can handle it!).  At this point, he only needs a couple more for his whole classroom.

It sucks that it has to be this way, but at least he's getting his books.
