"And nobody has given any clear indication what's going to happen on the filibuster."

DhinMi, now you are just being silly.  You have a member here a long time, you are an observer of political events, you know that there isn't going to be a filibuster even if Ted Kennedy hasn't called you personally to tell you.  There has never a Plan for how to organize the hearings to give Dems the best chance to pull off a filibuster, because there has never been a plan to filibuster him.

Before the hearings started, the press was reporting that there was no plan to filibuster Alito.

Shit, Thomas was an unqualified, serial sexual harrasser of woman with a penchant for oddity porn, who lied to the committe repeatedly and they didn't bork him.  I kind of see a pattern when it comes to Democrats and hard right Republican nominees.  We give them moderates, they give us knuckledraggers.  Why do we give them moderates, because if we gave them a liberal, the Republicans (and some Democrats) would bork them with a filibuster if need be.

    ... now watch this drive.

No, as much as you may find it hard to believe, I am not certain they won't filibuster.  I don't think they did a good job in committee, but I think that has more to do with the personalities clusterd on that committee.  But I've seen them hold firm on Bolton, and on the repeated filibusters of the appellate judges.  And just because the press says something, that doesn't make it so.  Geeze, you're smart enough to know that.

When I start seeing unattributed quotes to unnamed Dem senators saying a decision has been made that they won't filibuster, I may conclude there won't be one.  But I haven't seen that yet, and if they were certain they weren't going to filibuster, they would probably already have done that by now.  But instead, I've seen reports that they're counting votes.  I believe those reports to be true.

Will they filibuster?  I really don't know.  But I'm not sure that the Dem Senators know yet either.

The revolution will not be televised, but we'll analyze it to death at The Next Hurrah.
