what the VA bill allows and doesn't allow.  Is this an amendment to the state constitution?    Texans voted on a constitutional amendment last year they thought just outlawed gay marriage, but turns out it outlawed most legal contracts/partnerships between unmarried people.

Texans are still waking up to what this means.  Decades-old common law marriages are threatened, Powers of Attorney are in jeopardy and various other legal contracts are being questioned.

There aren't many bright bulbs in Texas state government, but many of the citizens are even dimmer than their elected representatives, and there is still a very large contingency of bigots in the state.  But as many times as we (those who had actually read the constitutional amendment before it came before the voters) tried to get the word out that this bill was actually going to affect a lot more people than just gays.

Didn't help, so now we're stuck with another huge mess to untangle.  Read the fine print and try to get the word out about what the VA legislation or amendment will really do.
