by ordering soldiers to only wear govt. issue there won't be many " I was saved by my body armor but my buddy couldn't afford to buy his own...." type stories....

War is a Racket, Smedly Butler...more timely today than the day it was written....

    •  This is about more than $ 575K in gifts, hatchet (none)

         ---   Much more   ---

Soft money to party committees alone, from 1998 to 2002:
about $ 600 K   [ data source: Center for Responsive Politics, FEC records]

plus $125 K to elections races heading into the 2004 cycle,

plus $90K or so to individual candidates (excluding the soft $ to committees) in 2000 and 1998,

plus $51,000 so far for the 2006 campaign cycle underway.

100 grand here, 100 grand there, sooner or later you're talking about real money.
As you can see, this is about more than $575k.  I'm up to about 850k by my count.

So let's give credit where credit is due.

      •  Thanks, Joan (none)
        I was using campaignmoney.com's figures, from 2000, 2002 and 2004. You'll note that our 2006 figures jibe.

        Thanks for the tip!
