The most important thing is to not pick a VP that outshines the candidate. Kerry is going to have to look really hard to find someone less exciting than himself. Like in a morgue.

While I like Edwards, I don't see Kerry picking him as VP candidate unless he is forced into it.

In terms of charisma, likability and personability. Edwards is everything Kerry isn't. Put the two in a room together and Kerry looks like the butler.

Hmmm - I know this criticism and can understand it.  But, I don't particularly by into it.  I have heard folks say that Edwards grows off you over time.  I like Edwards but I don't really buy into the whole "aw shucks, I am just the son of a mill-worker just like you".  I think his rhetoric is gold, but the way he delievers it doesn't appeal to me.

Still, I think that he makes a great VP pick.  THe great thing ... we will all find and hopefully soon.

      •  Why not Attorney General? (none)
In most ways more high-profile than VP (think Reno and Ashcroft), in many ways you get to set your own agenda and launch your own causes.  Unlike VP you are allowed to have charisma.

Kerry is not Clinton, he is not going to hand defined areas of government over to Edwards like Clinton did Gore, and Kerry is definitively not Bush II, handing over all of government to Cheney as long as he gets to retain the trappings of power.

Unless Edwards has a dying need to become a world-traveler and non-stop top mourner at every world-leader's funeral ever held, he should be shooting for a job with subtance - and AG is a perfect fit.

Although another option would be Elliot Spitzer, I think Edwards is close to a gimme for AG. He would bring energy & a high profile to the position. Richardson or Clark would be better for VP and bring more to play in real swing states, such as AZ, NV, NH & maybe even AR.
