    Since modern Hebrew has had to borrow so many words from other languages to be useful for everyday use, and not being an etymologist or linguist, it's not always obvious to me to tell which ones are newly borrowed, and which ones were borrowed back in the day.

    (Aside from, obviously, words such as internet, radio, video, etc., which, nevertheless, are also mostly of ancient origin.)

    In any case, though, the point that my little story depended on was that this word is shared by and pronounced much the same in both Hebrew and English, regardless of their ultimate origins, so the Greek etymology is, well, nyet tres apropos, mi haver.
