    Both coal mines where people died lately had numerous safety "violations".  Typical fine was lower than the cost of having your car towed if it's parked in a towaway zone.

    Fines for Janet Jackson's "wardrobe" malfunction at Superbowl about 1000 times higher than typical mine fine.

    Howard Stern fined considerably more ($millions) for "crude language" than either of these mining death traps.

    (Nevermind the foot-dragging response to Katrina as people were dying...)

    Erring on the side of life, indeed!
