  •  All snark aside, (4.00)
Ted Stevens (as much as I loathe him) is an Alaskan - pro-oil, yes, pro-business, yes, but also libertarian & pro-choice (or so he has said in the past).  The same is true for Alaska's other Senator, Lisa Murkowski.

By the way, it's -45 in Fairbanks today!  Only -6 here at Fort Rich = balmy!

    •  -1 in downtown anchorage (4.00)
and i'm getting ready to get back on my bike!

good to see other alaskans on the board.

if trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? we might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason. jack handy.

    •  It was -20... (4.00) my place at the crack of 1 AM this morning on the East side of Anchorage.  My heat decided to stop working to boot.

It's no fun coming home and seeing your breath in the house. :(

I can't imagine. I guess one gets used to it, to a degree (no pun intended).

He might think some restrictions are ok (late term), but you're right, he's fundamentally pro-choice, and that's no mean feat in his party.

He used to be skeptical about stem cell research, but his wife turned him around on it, and now he's committed to it.

That said, I don't see a way where he lets the 5-10% of Alito he doesn't like get in the way of confirmation.  He's going to be a "yea" on confirmation and a "yea" on cloture.
