  •  Outstanding and terrifying diary Meteor! (4.00)
    It is close to midnight.

The same people that had no plan beyond getting to Baghdad, the same incompetents that underestimated the cost in lives and treasure by orders of magnitude want us to believe now that they understand the consequences of a preemptive nuclear strike against Iran.

Gold looks like a good bet.

    •  How do we know they underestimated anything? (4.00)
I'm in the camp that thinks they knew all along and just didn't care.

I used to think of them as incompetent, now I just think of them as plain old fashioned evil.

Perhaps they know exactly what they are getting into with Iran.

Or maybe it's just past my bedtime and the sleepier I get the more paranoid.

    •  One unconsidered consequence: (4.00)
If we were to nuke these presumed WMD sites in Iran, there'd be no uproar afterwards about not finding WMDs to justify the attack.

There would be absolutely no way for anyone to verify whether or not the WMDs had actually been there.  Nuclear blast sites have a way of damaging any evidence that might otherwise remain in the wake of a conventional attack.  And even in the case of a site buried so deeply that something might be left after destruction by a nuclear shock-wave type blast, it would be impossible to dig down and examine the remains, due to radioactivity.

So the great advantage to a nuclear attack (from the administration's point of view) on suspected Iranian WMD sites is that all the evidence is destoyed.

      How convenient - no?

It ain't called paranoia - when they're really out to get you.
