  •  Others I have no faith in getting it: (4.00)
    1. Big Oil (well, I guess that's the same as BushCo) - They put on a happy face: Don't worry, plenty of oil left, if those darn environmentalists would just get outta our way and let us drill more.

    2. Auto Industry - Gee, is it any wonder Ford just laid off 30,000 workers? Yet every Ford commercial I see on TV is for some big-ass hemi truck. Who are these people listening to?

    3. Developers (and the city councils that allow them to do what they do) - They keep building more and more sprawl, farther out, which is going to be soooo expensive to get to in just a decade. Will the suburbs become ghost towns?

    4. Some People - The folks who think technology will solve the problem so not to worry, Bush will solve the problem ("the hydrogen economy"), the Rapture is coming so it doesn't matter (don't laugh, this is a point of view shared by more than a few people in leadership positions), or many others, who just want to keep drivin' along, happy as clams.

    5. Media - You rarely see this story get the attention it deserves. Wonder why? Who are the principal advertisers on many TV shows and newspapers? Hint, check #1-3 above.

    •  Actually... (none)
Jerome has pointed out the Big Oil does get it, as most of the major company scentific advisors/geologist and CEOs have confirmed Peak Oil.  And as said about the Rep. Congressman from MD is working on policy with a few other house members.

And maybe BushCo does get it, why do they seem so aggressive at securing the Middle east?  Feel connected to their Arab brothers?  The furture may be in who can get their hands on the most oil to starve off complete economic collapse.

      •  Oh, they absolutely get (none)
that we've past peak oil and that, as you say, they need to secure more oil lands. What they aren't talking about, however, is a future without oil, which is the future. Why scare people into not driving more?

        •  You're not thinking like a Neocon (none)

Nor can I really.  I believe they see only in terms of the struggle, the immediate ends.  Grab it all up, secure what you can, take the spoils.  A future completely without oil?  Not their personal problem, they'll be one before then and have secured enough cash for their families to survive in any future.

I really don't know.  My best understanding of Neocons is that they live in the "now."  They go out to win the battles, forgetting theres a war.

        •  Oh and big oil (none)
As long as theres money to be squeezed out of people for gasoline and oil, keep a-squeezin.  Foresight has been a lost commodity in the business world for more than a decade now.
    •  The Cleveland Plain Dealer (none)
has been publishing great stories on oil for the past year. Unfortunately, they haven't gathered all the stories in one place on their web site. We should suggest that they do it.
