  •  Lynn Swann is ahead of Rendell ???? (none)
Could it be because Pittsburgh is going to the Super Bowl and there are a lot of fond memories of that connected to Swann and his past Superbowl heroics?  Or, is Swann the real deal?

    •  Or is Rendell the Wrong Deal? (none)
Rendell is, I think, not the best Democrat we could have in the Governor's chair in PA.  He's made some boneheaded moves and he's too much a part of the Machine to some parts of the state.

Swann will poll well from name recognition, but I think when he gets out on the stump he's either going to fumble or get some personal fouls thrown against him by the KKK-Right that still lurks in the deeper bowls of the state.

is not the best choice Democrats could have made.
He has been a disappointment but with a Republican heavy legislature, Rendell is facing gridlock right and left. Very little gets done.
And then that pay raise controversy, the slot machine controversy and jobs hemorrhaging from this state while property taxes for Seniors and the Poor are the biggest issue and what people talk about here.

    •  Swann is a hero in Pgh for his personality and (none)
demeanor, not to mention the fact that he was a super star Steeler.

It's a shame that he's not a Democrat.  I really wish we had a candidate who could resonate like that.

Nearly everyone in Western PA knows who he is (and likes him), and not everyone in Western PA knows the issues.

All I can say is, get an Air America station in Pittburgh....

      •  Ultimately meaningless... but in the news. (none)
If ya can't have a stupid racial remark in the middle of a campaign, then it's not a campaign.

Gubernatorial hopeful fires campaign manager for calling opponent Lynn Swann 'rich white guy'

        January 26, 2006

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A gubernatorial candidate challenging pro football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann in the Republican primary fired his campaign manager after the man told a televised call-in show: "The rich white guy in this campaign is Lynn Swann."

Bill Scranton, a former lieutenant governor who is white and comes from a wealthy family, also issued an apology to Swann after his campaign manager's comments Wednesday.

The remarks by James Seif "in no way whatsoever reflect my views or those of my campaign," Scranton said. "I want to apologize to Lynn Swann, his family, supporters and PCN viewers for the offensive and disturbing comments made on my behalf."
