Didn't hear him last night, but yesterday during the hearing, after he said all of the awful things that would happen to the country and the court if Alito was confirmed, he said "I hope I am proven wrong."

As I posted yesterday, I take that to be that he hopes he is proved wrong when Alito is on the court, by his rulings. How else? Seemed to me, by that statement, Kerry thinks it's a done deal and no filibuster.

Okay, I couldn't stand it, so I called his office. Was told yes, Kerry is in favor of a filibuster. "He is talking with his colleagues in the senate about the feasibility of a filibuster."

I asked for clarification on "feasibility," and was told roughly:

"At this time it is not exactly that he is urging them to do one, but is discussing the feasibility of a filibuster."

Sounds a little nuanced to me!!! The staff has the KerrySpeak down pretty pat.

I say the diary is correct.

        Personally. I like realism.

It's funny that this community bends over backwards to the point of seppuku to be "reality-based" but has an unrelenting faith that obstinency is some sort of silver bullet that alone would set all to right at any given moment.

There is a lot more to winning than encountering adversity and then digging in your heels and blowing everything on the spot. It doesn't work well to do that on a battlefield, or at a craps table, and it doesn't work in politics either.

There are times and places to apply as much force as you can muster, and times not to.

And with a president making a historical power grab, and with the supreme court in danger of swinging wildly to the right, and with a shot at reclaiming the senate in 2006, this is absolutely the time to screw nuance and dig in your heels!
