    I think the balance is upset when the the justices are anti-equality. But I don't think it's worthwhile to artificially add diversity to the court: consider Thomas.

    Or consider Condaleeza Rice, or Alberto Gonzales, or Ken Mehlman. A veritable rainbow of misanthropy.

        I'm personally shy about using psychological explanations when sheer greed is more than enough to explain evil.

        In my ethnic group (Scots) we have centuries of history of backstabbing and betrayls. Scots are notoriously self confident. I don't think there is such a term in English or Gaelic as "self-hating Scot."

        But opportunists? Oh yea, big time. I know people of every creed and color who'd sell their mothers for a little more comfort.
