  •  That idea is known as "essentialism" (none)
    that members of a group all necessarily and inherently share some traits, and  is a fallacy which in other contexts leads to racism.

    Fact: most Democrats oppose Alito, and many want a filibuster to attempt to stop him.

    Fact: Nearly all Republicans support Alito, and the others will do nothing to stop him.

    Fact: Hurting the Democratic party, as an entire party, helps Republicans rule.

    The sensible alternative is to express displeasure regarding those legislators to the Democratic national party and commit to nominating different candidates there.
