    what progress Kennedy is talking about.  My answer is simply the move towards recognizing that the individual person is more important than the society into which he is born--that the purpose of society is to support the individual.  This is a rather radical notion that wasn't even partially realized when the Constitution was first drawn up. Had it been realized, it wouldn't have been possible to maintain the institution of slavery--slaves just being the objective evidence of the fact that the individual was considered subordinate to the state.
    Individual subordination is still the issue.  Judge Alito seems convinced that because the individual is flawed (conceived in "original sin" his religion tells him) authority has an obligation to set him right.  But, the assumption that humans are basically flawed is simply an excuse for those who want to control their fellow humans to do so.

    Forget "GOD, GUNS, GAYS, GIRLS & GETS"
