  •  I am wondering (4.00)
if people should be calling all republicans too.  At the very least we might get a few who will vote against cloture because of the pressure.
    •  yes (4.00)
there are a few repubs we can target who are on the fence.  i'll list them at the bottom of this comment.  also, please keep an eye on this page, which has running commentary on who's minds we are changing.  the latest updates:

      # 11:45 a.m: More good news: Sen. Biden told Wolf Blitzer he would vote for the filibuster (#15) - but just once, and then he'll vote against it. So I'll take him out of Filibuster Opponents - silent & scared, but I need to create a new caucus of one: the "Filibuster Flip-Flop Caucus," for Senators who will vote for the filibuster before they vote against it. I can't imagine Biden wants to spend much time in the "Filibuster Flip-Flop Caucus," so let's keep pounding him until he votes for it twice... thrice... as many times as it takes!
      # 10:10 a.m: Good news and bad news: Sen. Obama told George Staphylococcus he will (reluctantly) support the filibuster (#14), but also that it would fail - without identifying which Democrats would cause it to fail, which would help us turn them around. Obama said he opposed "procedural maneuvers" and wished Democrats had framed the substantive issues better. Hey Obama - when a wide receiver drops a pass, he doesn't walk over to the other team's coach and forfeit the game! No, he goes back to the huddle and tells his quarterback to throw him the ball on the very next play and then he makes damn well sure he catches it. Your next play is tomorrow so get over your past mistakes and catch the goddamn ball by preventing Bill Frist from getting 60 votes! Then you'll have plenty of time to frame the filibuster debate as it drags on for day after day...

keep the pressure up on BIDEN especially.

come on folks, you know what to do!

    •  YES (4.00)
Chafee was on the list as possibly persuadable.

I agree, everyone should call and fax ALL republicans. I've said it before, but I believe we let the republicans off the hook all the time. They can honestly say they are doing what their constituents want because they never hear from us!

Say no to hate, bigotry, and the author of the Fed. Marriage Amendment, Marilyn Musgrave. Please donate to Angie Paccione.

    •  Yes, Yes, and Yes (4.00)
Especially the wingnut ones.  Get every pro-choice person you know to call them too, but on the issue of the "unitary executive"--make that the opposition line.

The line: "I urge you to vote No on the Alito confirmation because of the threat he poses to the separation of powers."  That is all you need to say.  Let the number of people calling deliver the message.

      Key Republican States to call:
      Maine
      New Hampshire
      Rhode Island
      Pennsylvania
      Ohio
      North Carolina
      Georgia
      Missouri
      Kansas
      Indiana - especially, Lugar
      Iowa - Grassley
      Texas
      Oklahoma
      South Dakota
      Arizona

Don't tell them but let the number of people callidng signal to the Republicans that they have stirred up a hornets nest with this nomination.

      •  North Carolina (none)
I will call our two horrid senators tomorrow with that message (despite my rampant phone-phobia). But they are part of this great swollen cloud of Repug hubris now... I expect to be spoken to very rudely, as usual.

-9.0, -8.3. The less a man knows about how sausages and laws are made, the easier it is to steal his vote and give him botulism.

        •  Good for you (4.00)
Now get all of your pro-choice friends to do the same but with the unitary executive objection.  Carrying out one quixotic task in a lifetime is not too much to ask of a friend, is it?

And remember the lines from Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant:

          You know, if
one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and
they won't take him.  And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in
singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an
organization.  And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said
fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and
walking out.  And friends they may thinks it's a movement.
    •  Also if you are a constituent (none)
If you are a constituent, call their local offices instead of their DC office.  This sometimes has more impact.  But only if you are a constituent.
      •  I emailed Lieberman... (none)
...since his voice mail box was full. The text of my letter:

As a Democratic Town Committee member in ----, I urge you to please support Sen. Kerry's filibuster of Samuel Alito's nomination. I am deeply troubled by the threats to privacy rights and to our system of checks and balances, already dangerously breaking down. I have voted for you in the past, but the Town Committee is already split between you and Lampson. Please give us a reason to support your leadership at what I feel is an increasingly dangerous point in the history of our republic.
