  •  There's a huge (4.00)
    difference between Vietnam and Iraq.

Vietnam is in South EAST Asia and Iraq is in South WEST Asia.

    Good diary.

It is bad foreign policy to make enemies faster than you can kill them.

    •  Have you been snooping (4.00)
in the President's Daily Geography Briefings again?

    •  Analogies (4.00)
Agree the diarist is off the mark.

It is true that W seems to be looking to the Philippine example in setting his time-table for withdrawl.

However, since the Philippine adventure really got going in the aftermath of another conflict (the Spanish-American war), the better analogy here is probably with the forthcoming invasion of Iran...

Except that one will probably end differently...

      Anybody seen my owl?

      •  Look at the analogies in the context (none)
of U.S./Iraqi relations, 1990-present, and I think they'll make a better fit.  Some of the things I tried to highlight, like the selling-out of indigeneous fighters who rallied to support the U.S., have more clear parallels to the first Gulf War than the present one.

        Great tag line, btw!
